How to Draw Sonic – Let’s Get Started!

Step 1

Sonic has some pretty distinctive features in his design, and we’ll be sure to include them all! To begin with, we will start with one of those features: his pointed back! To get started, you can draw a curved horizontal line for the tops of the spikes.

Using a series of curvier lines ending in points, we’ll add three points to your issues. To help him visualize where everything will go, you can draw a circle in light pencil to show where his head will be as for the peaks of it.

Step 2

For the next part of your Sonic drawing, we’ll add the outline of his head at the beginning. Add a triangular line to form his ear at the end of the curved line you drew.

Using the reference image as a guide, you can draw a curved line to form the front of his head. This part can take a bit of practice, so it might be a good idea to remove it in pencil and then go over it in pen once you’re happy with it.

Step 3

In the next step of our guide on how to draw Sonic, we’ll show you how to remove the rest of his head. Using the ear, you drew in step 2, carefully add a curved line for the top of his head.

Once you’ve drawn that, you can add another pointy ear like the other one and then mirror the side of his face, so it looks like the other side. Once this is done, his sonic head is ready, and you can move on to the next step.

Step 4

Before you draw the first arm of your Sonic drawing, add a curved line to form his smiling mouth inside his head! The reference image will guide you on where to put that. His arm will then begin to extend in a straight line directly from his head.

Then his gloved hand is made up of more curvy lines, and you can follow the image closely to replicate the look of the hand. Once you’re happy with your arm, carefully draw a line down with a sharp point for the tail.

step 5

Now that you’ve drawn with one hand, you should have no problem adding the other! His other arm will be a mirror image of the first one you draw, so it should be much easier to add, especially with the reference image to help you.

Once the other arm is drawn, you can use a nice curved line to give Sonic a belly. This line should almost touch the other side of his body, but be sure to leave room for his leg in the next step.

step 6

Sonic wouldn’t be Sonic without his speedy legs, so it’s time to draw something for him on your Sonic drawing! You can add the beginning of his legs using some shorter straight lines. One of their choices is to go into the space you left before. Then his socks are made up of two stubby shapes, and his glasses are big and round.

Step 7

For the next step in our guide on how to draw Sonic, we’ll be giving the speedy hero a face. You can give him his eyes by using two long ovals and adding two smaller solid blacks inside them.

Then he has his eyes surrounded by a large round shape that you can see in the picture. Draw it carefully, and then add a rounded nose to it. Finally, you can add some lines on his ears to give them depth.

step 8

Your Sonic drawing is almost finished and needs a few finishing touches! You can draw simple lines on areas like her belly, hands, and feet, as seen in the reference image. With these details added, there is only one step left to go.

step 9

With that, you’ve managed to learn how to draw Sonic! However, there is one more step, and it’s fun! Sonic needs some color now, so you can have fun using your favorite art tools to paint everyone’s famous Hedgehog.

Sonic has a distinctive color set, and our image shows his typical appearance. Will you stick with the standard Sonic colors or use some of your favorite colors to round it out? For some variation, you can also try out fun art mediums like paints, watercolors, or colored pens!
